Dr. Louis B. Lynn is a distinguished entrepreneur, research scientist, and civic leader whose extraordinary life is a testament to faith, resilience, and excellence. Born into the momentous Baby Boomer generation in Darlington County, South Carolina, Dr. Lynn’s life was profoundly shaped by a loving family, a supportive community, and the enduring teachings of the Bible. Guided by faith and the transformative experiences of his era, he seized educational and professional opportunities, breaking barriers that had been denied to his forefathers.

A trailblazer in every sense, Dr. Lynn was among the pioneering second freshman class to integrate Clemson University, where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Horticulture. He later achieved a Ph.D. in Horticulture from the University of Maryland, laying the foundation for his illustrious career.

After serving as a research scientist at Monsanto, where he contributed to the development of the revolutionary Roundup® herbicide, Dr. Lynn founded ENVIRO Ag Science, Inc. in 1985. Under his visionary leadership, ENVIRO became South Carolina’s largest African American-owned landscape firm, completing landmark projects such as the Columbia Convention Center, the University of South Carolina Colonial Center, and BMW Manufacturing facilities. ENVIRO’s client portfolio extends to major government and military entities, including Ft. Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, and the Savannah River Nuclear Site.

Beyond business, Dr. Lynn’s life mission reflects his steadfast commitment to social responsibility and civic engagement. Serving nine consecutive terms on the Clemson University Board of Trustees since 1988, his influence has profoundly shaped the institution’s growth. His leadership extends to numerous organizations, including the S.C. Workforce Investment Board, the State Chamber of Commerce, and the S.C. Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics.

A devout Christian, Dr. Lynn integrates faith into every aspect of his life and work. Guided by his mission statement from Proverbs 16:3 — “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established” — he views his business as an extension of his ministry. His faith-driven leadership has earned him opportunities to lead prayers at high-profile events, from Clemson home football games to mayoral inaugurations and the South Carolina Governor’s Prayer Breakfast. Further deepening his commitment, he studied Market Place Ministry at Columbia Bible College.
